What is Month-end close?

The process of reviewing, reconciling and locking a month's books so its financial statements are final.

The month-end close is the set of steps that finalise a month: reconcile the bank, clear or explain open items, book accruals, review inventory, and lock the period so nothing else posts into it.

A slow close usually comes from data arriving late from operations and from reconciliations done all at once at the end. When the ledger is fed as the work happens, much of the close is review rather than catch-up.

APFoodz includes a close checklist and period locks.
