Nominal weight is the typical weight of a catch-weight unit, such as 10 pounds for a case of chicken breasts. It is used to estimate order totals, plan truck loads and spot problems before the actual weight is known.
A tolerance around the nominal weight catches mistakes. A case recorded far heavier or lighter than expected is usually a keying error or a wrong item, not a real case, and is worth stopping at receiving.
APFoodz uses the nominal weight for estimates and bills the actual weight on the invoice.
