Catch-weight invoice calculator
Enter the price per pound, the nominal case weight, and the actual weight of each case. See the invoice line on the actual weight and how much billing the nominal weight would have given away or overcharged.
Bill the weight that shipped.
A catch-weight item is priced by the pound but handled by the case, and no two cases weigh the same. Billing every case at its nominal weight gives margin away on the heavy ones and overcharges on the light ones, which is where disputes start.
How the line is calculated
- Actual: the case weights are added up, multiplied by the price per pound and rounded to the cent once.
- Nominal: the number of cases times the nominal weight, at the same price.
- Tolerance: a case more than the tolerance away from nominal is usually a keying mistake or the wrong item, worth checking before it is invoiced.
In APFoodz, catch-weight items are priced by the pound and invoiced on the weight that shipped.
Questions about this tool.
Why not bill the nominal weight?
Because no two cases weigh the same. Billing nominal gives margin away on every heavy case and overcharges on every light one, which invites disputes.
